The Utraphimuk Elevated Tollway Extension Intercity Motorway, Rangsit – Bang Pa-In Section, Project (M5) is an extension to the existing Utraphimuk Elevated Tollway, with its alignment elevated over Phahonyothin Road. Having 3 lanes per direction (totaling 6), the Anusornsathan – Rangsit Section (currently in operation) covers 7 km. and the Rangsit – Bang Pa-In Section (not yet started) covers 22 km., making a total of 29 km. for the entire route.

The project begins where the existing Utraphimuk Elevated Tollway (Anusornsathan – Rangsit Section) ends, at km. 33+924 of Phahonyothin Road, near the Royal Thai Mint, Khlong Nueng Subdistrict, Khlong Luang District, Pathum Thani Province. Heading northward along Phahonyothin Road, passing Pathum Thani (Khlong Luang District) and Ayutthaya (Bang Pa-In and Wang Noi districts) provinces, the route terminates at Bang Pa-In Interchange, with its terminus being connected to Highway 1 at-grade level (Phahonyothin Road), Highway 32, and Bang Pa-In – Nakhon Ratchasima Intercity Motorway (M6). In the future, it will also connect to both the western and eastern parts of Motorway No. 9 (Kanchanaphisek Road) and terminate tentatively at km. 51+924 of Phahonyothin Road.

Rest Area

A rest area is provided for motorists’ convenience near Rangsit 1 Toll Plaza, from km. 35+075 to km. 35+300 of the Bangkok-bound route. Situating on the elevated structure, this rest area was designed with motorists’ safety prioritized, by incorporating the curves that best match driving speeds in the project main routes. An additional lane is also provided, with sufficient length allowed to serve as a deceleration and acceleration lane for vehicles entering and exiting the rest area, whereas adequate sight and stopping distances are designed for safety purpose. Included in the rest area are a variety of facilities, for example, restrooms, pavilions, retail and service areas, offices, etc. Parking spaces are also available for both private cars and large buses.

Connection to Motorway Network

The project includes 2 following interchanges:

  1. at Rangsit 1 on-off ramps, interchanging with Utraphimuk Elevated Tollway; and
  2. at the project terminus, interchanging with Bang Pa-in–Nakhon Ratchasima Intercity Motorway (M6), enabling further travel toward the Northeast. Also available are the on-off ramps that connect to Highway 32 at-grade level, facilitating travel to the upper Central and Northern regions.

Ancillary Buildings along the Project Alignment

In the detailed design, ancillary buildings are allocated along the project alignment to meet all requirements, including:
