Utraphimuk Elevated Tollway Extension Intercity Motorway, Rangsit – Bang Pa-In Section, Project (M5)

The Cabinet (CME) resolution on December 24, 2024, approved the Department of Highways to proceed with the Intercity Motorway No. 5 Project – Uttaraphimuk Elevated Expressway Extension (Rangsit–Bang Pa-in Section) as a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Gross Cost investment model.
This project will help alleviate traffic congestion on Phahonyothin Road and Vibhavadi Rangsit Road by providing a seamless connection from the heart of Bangkok to the upper central, northern, and northeastern regions of Thailand. It will enhance traffic flow, making travel more convenient, faster, and safer, while also supporting logistics and contributing to the overall economic growth of the country.

The Intercity Motorway No. 5 Project – Uttaraphimuk Elevated Expressway Extension (Rangsit–Bang Pa-in Section) is an extension of the existing Uttaraphimuk Elevated Expressway. The route runs along Phahonyothin Road and consists entirely of an elevated structure with six lanes (three in each direction), covering a total distance of approximately 29 kilometers.

The project comprises two main sections:

Rangsit – Bang Pa-in Section (approximately 22 kilometers)

  • Starting point: The current terminus of the Uttaraphimuk Elevated Expressway
  • Ending point: The Bang Pa-in Interchange, connecting to Motorway Route M6

Anusornsatarn – Rangsit Section (approximately 7 kilometers) This section is currently operated and maintained by the Department of Highways.

Project Partnership

The PPP Gross Cost has been applied for the project, where the private party is responsible for designing and constructing a 6-lane elevated motorway, system works and other related facilities, including on-off ramps, interchanges, and installation of the M-Flow Traffic Control Surveillance System.
